Project 180 is well under way.
Purchased in May 2004 I'm now into my second year of
ownership.
I new of a couple of small issues the car had when I purchased it however the continuation
of problems has been a bigger issue. When I first purchased it all that was really evident
was cosmetic being a small dent just behind the drivers door and cracked paint
on the boot from the GT wing.
After handing over the cash I asked where the remote for the alarm was? problem
discovered the alarm has not being working for months therefore no remote. I took the car to
my parents where they said your drivers side headlight isn't working - dang another
problem......
So far it has been:
Problem: Headlight not working
Solution: Replace globe also found out headlight sometimes goes off then comes back on.
Solution 2: replace the indicator stork (apparently there's a fault in the set up sometimes it
fails)
Problem: Speedo wont work for first 10 minutes of driving (big problem)
Solution: replace the instrument cluster ($400 thank you)
Problem: Huge flat spot at about 4000RPM
Solution: Bloody bastard not only did the previous owner use regular unleaded he also ran
out of fuel so often he kept a jerry can in the back - fuel pump replaced.
Problem: vibration at 60kmph
solution: partially fixed with a wheel alignment (dude said it must have been sent into a kerb
at high speed to be that far out) completely fixed with the reconditioning of the
tail shaft.
Problem: Indicators go at warp speed
Solution: buy some heap ass indicators and hide them behind the front bar but connect
them. Stupid electronic relays can deal with having missing indicators.
Problem:
After 20 minutes driving boost drops to half
Solution:
Worked out just recently its the bloody fuel cut. I now have on order
a Turbosmart Fuel Cut Defender and boost controller. *Update*
have been told its not fuel cut its a faulty MAP *Fixed*
Putting in a aftermarket bleed valve has fixed the problem - weird but
thanks RPM (they don't get why its fixed either)
Problem:
Even with a/con on only hot air comes out.
Solution:
Not yet fixed but have noticed that the climate sensor is missing *Fixed*
replaced the climate sensor and all running good now
Problem:
weird tinking noise from engine bay, hotter the engine the more
obvious it is.
Beliefs:
still stuck on this one, my brother has suggested its a loose timing
chain. recently thought maybe its the a/con compressor on its way out.
Solution:
Unfortunately no solution to be had here, SR20's just get a bit rattly
and this is no different. Could do a rebuild or change over to a more
reliable black top but no damaged will be caused from this.. *Update*
Went back and pointed out exactly what the noise was and after a long
hard think they now thing the timing chain tensioner is dirty and at
idle isn't quite working properly. Still have to take it in to get it
fixed.
Problem:
Cant start car because there is no power.
Solution:
Cant say without a multimeter *Fixed*
Somehow managed to push the parker button so lights were left on.
Problem:
When air-con is on and car is under load, it seems as if car is
running off 2 cylinders.
Solution:
Buggered if I know didn't think the air-con was hooked into the motor
apart from the belt. *Update*
The theory ATM is that the car is pumping in extra juice
expecting the air con to be working so its flooding itself - get new
compressor.
Thought
about what has had to be fixed on my car and..
Instrument
cluster - faulty digital speedo
Indicator stork - faulty headlights
Reconditioned tailshaft - car was vibrating
Replaced clutch - super slippage
Battery - fair enough they all die
Gear Stick - ball joint was rooted making it sloppy
Suspension - shocks rooted and super high
Various vacuum lines - just cracked to crap causing leaks
Thermostat - shit itself
Fuel pump - stocky clogged from stupid previous owner
Climate sensor - just missing
Rear seat belt - totally sun damaged so it stopped working
Gear boot - sun damaged beyond repair
Ash tray - missing as well
Speakers - front blown rears just dont work
Interior light - very minor but didn't even have a globe
Clutch pedal - when converted some other cars clutch and brake pedal
was used so weld snapped
Front indicators - didn't have any so I had warp 4 captain
